Senior Associate for Online Communications

Essential Responsibilities:
The senior associate for Online Communications is a member of the
Communications team and has responsibility for the online presentation
of PolicyLink, its partners, and its issues. The position is based in
New York and reports jointly to the vice president for Communications
and the director of Finance and Operations.

The senior associate for online communications works collaboratively
with communications and program staff in all the PolicyLink offices to
use the Internet to advance strategies and tools to achieve economic
and social equity. By providing online information about issues and ideas,
disseminated via the PolicyLink website, email newsletters and blasts,
streaming video, audio of speeches, blogs, and podcasts, the incumbent
supports the organization’s mission of Lifting Up What Work and
demonstrating the power of policy to change lives and circumstances.

This position will include leading and/or participating on project
teams, researching and providing recommendations for new technologies,
and responsibility for design, implementation, and maintenance of
Internet activities. This position will coordinate with PolicyLink IT
manager (in Oakland) on issues regarding IT capacity and services that
affect the organization’s ability to deliver online communication
activities.

Duties:
• Responsible for implementing the ongoing development of the
PolicyLink website; monitors, analyzes and reports site traffic
• Sends action alerts, event promotions, fundraising, and other
e-mails to internal staff and external stakeholders; tracks email effectiveness
and creates regular reports for staff
• Works collaboratively with other departments to monitor and ensure
online content is accurate and continuously updated
• Responds to online inquiries and troubleshoot issues
• Develops multimedia applications for the site
• Researches and advises on newly developing internet technologies as
they apply to nonprofit organizations
• Integrate multimedia functionality into website
• Works with IT manager to implement security measures across
applications sufficient to protect and prevent against application
vulnerabilities, hijackers, and intruders (same as third bullet)
• Works with and supervises outside service vendors if appropriate,
including supervising web developers to create websites for PolicyLink
partner organizations


Required qualifications:
• Experience in managing web design and/or redesign projects
• Advanced knowledge of HTML, DHTML, Java Script, Php, and My Sequel
• Advanced knowledge of Content Management Systems, including
Contribute
• Advanced knowledge of multimedia tools, including Flash, audio and
video streaming; and web creation software; Dreamweaver is desirable
• Ability to convert existing images (TIFF, BMP, PSD) for online use
(JPG, GIF) using Adobe ImageReady and PhotoShop
• Thorough knowledge of browser compatibility issues for all
platforms/major browsers
• Mass e-mail production and e-mail list management experience
preferred
• Demonstrated interest in progressive politics
• Familiarity with the role of technology, including wireless
technology, in policy campaigns
• Experienced, self-motivated, team player, with strong people skills
• Minimum 5 years experience in web design, content management, and
maintenance
